Mary Katherine Wayland

In the spring of 1912, At the age of 20, Katherine graduated from the
prestigious Monticello Female Seminary in Godfrey, Illinois.  Run under the
auspices of the Episcopal Church, Monticello was one of the finest finishing
schools in America.  Daughters belonging to some of America's wealthiest
families attended Monticello, among them the Duponts.  Below are some
photos of the campus, then and now.
Monticello was founded in 1835.  From the beginning, the course of study
was rigorous.  Far more than just a "finishing school", Monticello was an
institution of higher learning.
